Viola! The Finished Product!

Well, now you have seen the original (ok, so took out the background) black and white photo, now here is the finished one with my editing all done. I think it looks much nicer don't you! Can't wait to start my Portrait course after Christmas break! A break that is well needed, but I am looking forward to doing some portraits over the break! Love this, my passion is developing!

black and white from colour

Adam now in black and white!  I had taken the picture in colour but didn't like the background so decided to change it to black and white and get rid of the back ground.

A little Christmas Cheer

Found these little cuties at Art Knapps , just a fun shot that I did, guess I better get my butt out and about and capture some Christmas pictures! Whew, three more days and then Christmas break from college. I sure could use the time off to just play with my camera! But alas, I think I shall have a assignment from our new portrait instructor to do over the break! Hmm wonder what it will entail?

A little Splash

Got it right this time!

Playing outside the box!

A bit of work in Photoshop fixing the exposure for this shot. Hmmm,,, best to "capture" the shot properly the first time! Or take lots of shots!

Yup, playing outside the box again! I decided to change the saturation and hue on this shot and loved what the end result was!

This was so much fun, I have to do it again, and again!

Having fun doing a "splash" shot

It was so much fun doing my splash assignment, the technical part was tricky as we have to increase shutter speed to capture the splash action, and still expose for lighting. Overhead, side and a fill light was on this, but despite using the remote triggers the flash did not keep up with the camera. Not enough syn time recycle in the flash units. Hence a darker background instead of white, and just the overhead light that was not on syn for this photo. So this is my "bad" one, as not good enough for the assignment. Still I like the splash I managed to capture in the orange juice. Used a small orange to drop and timing is the key! Little bit of saturation change but because of the lighting problem, the juice has a nice reddish tinge on the side where the flash didn't fire. Well, off I went again to redo this shot, having lots of fun doing it and managed to get my "good" shot, in only taking two pictures. It pays to have all the technical things working, so enjoy this little shot, and I will post the good one soon.
So much fun!

Oh my gosh, a fellow student "captured" me!

Well, this is a rare picture as I don't allow myself to get "captured" I am much more comfortable behind the camera rather in front of it!  It's a good thing I am learning Photoshop, helps to get rid of some wrinkles and excess ....... well you know or not! My skills may be such that you don't notice! Taken by a fellow photography student!

Ghosts in the woods.

Fun times in the woods, but there are ghosts there! LOL. actually playing with my camera and slow shutter speed and open aperature. Can you see the ghostly figure? Whew, this took a lot of work to achieve!

Getting serious now

After much thought and contemplation, I have changed the name of my business from Laurelea Images to Laurelea Photography. Whatcha think?
Bright Field, totally different lighting, I played with the composition for a bit, three glasses, different compositions until I decided to go outside the box. LOL, ya, I love going outside the box!

Skills I am learning in my college course that will serve me well in all kinds of applications. Let the creativity begin! Hope you enjoy my "Jones soda" ! Tee heee, off to create some more , this is fun!
Enjoy!

Darkfield assignment, the key is to light the glassware and using key light and gobos, create a dark field around the glassware that just lights up the outside edges. I had fun of course, adding more to the assignment! Always have to do a little bit more and stretch my abilities! I tried to catch a droplet or splash with this( oh, ya, my splash assignment is next!) and spent a few hours capturing the elusive droplet! More fizz, okay, lets use some Eno! Shake up the ginger ale, ya, I used ginger ale for this shot! Fun and frustrating but determined to get that "shot" that I wanted!

There you go! The shot!
Now to go and play some more!
Oh and now to do a brightfield shot for my assignment!

Jovi

I loved how the sunlight lite up his head and had to capture him once again! Jovi is such a willing model for me, hmm, maybe I should do a montage of images with him in all kinds of poses and places. Oh oh, thinking ! LOL

Lest we forget

I was honored to attend the Remeberance Day celebration of respect and honor  in Cobble Hill and there was a huge crowd! Couldn't take pictures of the laying of the wreaths but my thoughts were on the soldiers who have served for our freedom. I took this one when they parted the crowd for the march away from  the ceremony. My thoughts on this are the many soldiers who have served and think this portrays that at least in my eyes. What do you think of this one? A little bit of Photo shop work on this and I think it will be more awesome.

Halloween shoot but just a taste of the many that I did.

Even the dogs were dressed up!

So many costumes and parents walking down the sidewalks! All of a sudden, guess what caught my eye! Feet! and a little witch amongst them!
And lots of people taking pictures not just the crazy college photography  students!

and a different slant on a garbage can!

 Rim lighting !
Well, I got lots of shots during the Courtenay Halloween parade, there were so many cute costumes on the kids, but alas no releases  so here is just a little taste. I love the rim lighting on the little white child! And the reflection thru the storefront window!

Big assignment

Well, now we are let loose, and have a big assignment to do. Hmmm, I will need some moms and kids so anyone interested in modelling and a free photo???

Wow! 96% on my still life ceramic shots!!!!

Denman Island, Piercy's Farm

Off we went over to Denman Island, a cool, wet day, the usual type of day for our Wed Class! Yup, rain doesn't stop us 12 photography students and one "just do it" professor! Off we went, and the colder it got, but we trekked up the hill to the well known farm site. What a treat, the historic 100 year old barn has a treasure trove of wonderful antique machinery! And cobwebs galore to add character! Our first assignment in which we could use flash if we wanted but the awesome natural light from the open barn door brought neat contrasting light! Here is a sample of my images. Enjoy!  Oh , and yes, we found a herd of cows too!

This horse buggy was in awesome shape and with a little fill flash the ornate wood decorations stand out fantastic!

Natural lighting and this old wash tub and scrub board caught my eye! Hmmm, a polarizing filter would help bring out the detail in the wash board more but I love this one.

And just what do you think caught my eye with this one? Leave me a comment and let's see if you are correct! Watch for my answer soon.
Hope you enjoy these, tell your friends and come follow me!

93% on this assignment! Whoop whoop whoopie!

Nerds! It's Rainbow Nerds!

My assignment was to photograph a cardboard box! Well, here is my cardboard box! Nerds! Rainbow Nerds! Lots of colour, and nerds!!!! Gotta love these ones! How is this for a product shot! Works doesn't it! Jumps out and grabs you!

Here 's a neat ceramic shoot I did! Just handed it in so waiting for my marks!

My assignment was to shoot four ceramics, two glossy and two matte and control the lighting. Simple use of props and here are the shots! I tried to get the steam rising out of the coffee but alas the studio was too hot! Hmm , dry ice would of worked! The coffee was good though!
Yum, Yum. Jelly beans anyone?  A little bit of Valentine flavor to this one! I shared the jelly bellies with the class!
As it is Halloween soon, I couldn't resist doing this cute little guy! And the chocolates sure tasted great after! This little guy is only 3" high but he looks bigger doesn't he!
My mother's dish, I remember this sitting on my mother's dresser and  of course, on a dollie, so it seemed appropriate to use on for the prop in this. Very simple and very dear to me.
Hope you like these!

A jaunt to a Junkyard!

One the first assignments was to go to a junk yard , camera and tripod in hand. I had to photograph one car only, professor appointed, using only my tripod for half a hour. A lesson in slowing down and seeing things. Here is a sample of those pictures.
A old studebaker, the old rusty car, but the still shiny trunk latch!

The glass has such wonderful patterns in it, the
true nature of glass that it is  always
moving.

The old emblem and new leaf, not put
there by me but just drifted down on
the car .

Poignant!

I think if you look close you will see
me with my camera !

So much chrome in those days!

The seat gives up its structure to time.

Love the lights!

Still proud amongst the rust of time.

They sure made license plates to last didn't they!

I hope you enjoy and leave comments!
